In 1966, our society, led by Pastor David Abbot, made a bold step of faith and broke ground on what now is the Oasis Home Church sanctuary. The slogan to rally that campaign was "Our Thrust by Faith into the Future."
Now, almost 60 years later, we are making another bold step of faith. We want to see what began here over 119 years ago, and carried along with great people of faith, continue forward to future generations.

Sunnydale and Burien Free Methodist Church, now Oasis Home Church, has a vision to develop and deploy healthy, abiding followers of Jesus. We long to continue the legacy of faithful, committed believers choosing to be located and rooted in the Sunnydale/Burien community. We also want to move forward and refresh the building and property to serve more generations in the coming decades.
Our slogan to rally this campaign is "Going back to our roots, to go forward to our future."
We have always been a community church since the formation of this society in March of 1906. That was more than just a statement in the sign on the front of the building; it was also about how the people of this society cared for the neighborhood. One example was the leadership of Pastor Leslie Whitehead, who spoke of then Burien Free Methodist at our 75th anniversary as a “sending church.” That was more than just words, as this society cared for Laotian refugees and longed to see a Laotian Church established.
Oasis Home Church, though neither Burien nor Sunnydale remains in the name, continues to be a community church. We have a set of values for the church building and property that prioritize the gospel transformation of our Sunnydale neighborhood. Though we are a church of home churches, we continue to cherish the heritage of our building and property. Being the longest-standing resident in our neighborhood should mean something!
We long to continue our legacy as a community church and have invested in needed updates to ensure that is possible!
We currently have multiple partner churches in the building that represent the diversity of our community. Yet there is more of the building that we long to see utilized for Kingdom impact. In 2023, our society was at a critical tipping point, and major repairs were needed to continue using it. Current Pastor Mark Miller and the BOA took a bold step of faith to secure a loan of $250,000 from the Free Methodist Foundation to begin the needed work.
With major projects completed, we are now positioned to see the building and property used for Kingdom impact for decades to come!
Stories that span over a century of faithful presence on this property testify to its impact on so many lives! How many churches in this community can say that? People come by often to share about how this building was formative in their faith journey, and we want those stories to continue into the future. We long to sow into that future!
If this building has played a role in your faith, would you consider giving generously to future generations so that this building, with all of its rich heritage, will be equipped to play a role in their faith formation?
As we develop this campaign, we want to hear stories of how this building and faith community have impacted your life. Whether through pictures, written stories, or short videos, send us your memories that contribute to our society’s legacy.
Specific prompts to consider:
-How has this building made a lasting impact on your faith journey?
-What are ways this property made a difference in the wider community?
-What would it mean for that legacy to continue to future generations?
100% of what you give will go towards the work done on the building, whether to pay off our current $250,000 loan or to fund upcoming projects.
There are two ways to contribute:
-A one-time gift
-A recurring gift for a period of time
Whatever way you choose to contribute, we are incredibly grateful for your generosity!
